About Ron Boeder - exodesign Founder + Director
I’m Ron Boeder, IDSA, an award-winning Industrial Designer and the founder of Exodesign, a premier industrial design and product development firm I established in 1987. With over 30 years of experience, I have designed and brought to market an array of successful products spanning industries including technology, medical devices, robotics, and consumer goods. My work has earned numerous accolades, including two IDEA Gold Awards, the highest honor in my profession, and multiple international design awards from organizations like Braun and iF Hanover.
My journey into industrial design began during my senior year of high school when I discovered the field while researching careers. After being accepted into multiple top programs, I chose to study at San Jose State University, which had the best Industrial Design program in California. Graduating at the top of my class, my student design of a tablet computer earned me my first IDEA Gold Award and foreshadowed the innovation I would bring to the field.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a diverse clientele, from Silicon Valley startups to Fortune 500 companies like Facebook, Mitsubishi, and Boston Scientific. I specialize in creating user-centered designs that are not only visually compelling but also manufacturable and market-ready. My expertise spans the full product development cycle, including user research, ergonomic design, prototyping, and manufacturing strategies.
At Exodesign, I lead a team dedicated to developing products that deliver exceptional user experiences while solving real-world problems. My projects include groundbreaking work such as the Artas Robotic Hair Transplant System, the Zap-X Radiosurgery Device, and innovative consumer products like the LensLifter Eyeglass Holder, which I invented, patented, and successfully brought to market.
In addition to running Exodesign, I am a passionate educator, sharing my expertise with the next generation of designers as a professor at San Jose State University. My curriculum focuses on emerging technologies, intellectual property, sustainability, and advanced materials.
